The ...

Hello Tejanos Out There!
This is a Tejano music site with a commonality line of balance.
Thank you for visiting and I'm so glad you're here at the real TMDC. Explore the new site, the new links, the new commentaries and new pictures, plus the latest updates & good Tejano music.
I have tried to have a music balance of Tejano awareness, logical/sound reasoning, and Tejano music issues/agendas that perhaps we can accomplish in time.
Plus music dialogue are the main principals of this site, and for all of you across this country. Progress in the advocacy and infrastructure of our Tejano music industry you could say, again,
Is the heart and rhythm of TMDC.
Welcome to my home, my little music corner of the internet.
Enjoy your stay.
I also believe that music like life itself can take us through so many roads, so many different paths, so many changes, traveling through city after city, and playing in other states and countries. But more importantly I think, we also learn other things from so many people we meet along the way. That is the beauty of life itself.
Plus, throughout my lifetime music has been right next to me - from Texas to California, and to Arizona in 2003. I must admit all of this has been an 'exceptionally long music journey' since the good old days in Austin Texas - it was sad to leave it in 1958.
'Today, well, I am grateful for the many advances in the digital world and how it's used in our modern present-day world.
You could say and you might even agree with me that it's a fast paced world out there with social media platforms' ...
And so many turbo-driven music apps; a market driven business, and a cell phone world at best.

Since I'm from Austin Texas, and a Libra, well ...
I love beauty in all forms and in all kinds of art/abstract pictures, 'astronomy' has been one of my favorite subjects since I was eight years old. I still love it.
I love to write and compose 'love ballads' ... but Tejano music being the main one. I love to write and arrange original songs as well as conjunto, group, and band music arrangements - I have written a few Tejano and country songs; one below; they're on the 'Music' link.

BTW, the 'Music' link has been reorganized in a much better style/format/categories for easier listening; I do hope it works better for you. I also added a few tracks/covers of Ai music - they sound so good. Thanks again.

I also play different kinds of music here, from super Tejano hits to light rock and new/old country, upload YouTube videos at times, and other music that I have in my computer ... like salsa, oldies, Hawaiian, reggae, and classic hits. Other current interests are world history, United States history, photography, computers, and digital effects. I use Photoshop to layout my own pictures of the universe and our solar system together; luv the flute, and all kinds of planes since I was a Texas kid - from jets to airliners. Ai too.

Tejano music is a vibrant fusion originating from Texas and Northern Mexico, blending traditional Mexican folk (rancheras, corridos) with European polka/waltz (accordion) AND American styles (rock, country). Key characteristics include lively rhythms, Spanish lyrics, prominent accordion/bajo sexto, and modern influences like synthesizers and cumbia beats.
Main Characteristics of Tejano Music
-
Instrumentation:
The accordion is central to conjunto-style Tejano, often paired with the bajo sexto (12-string guitar), bass, and drums. Modern Tejano often substitutes or adds synthesizers, saxophones, and electric guitars.
-
Musical Influences:
It fuses Mexican traditional music (ranchera, mariachi) with European styles (German/Czech polka, waltz). Later additions include rock, blues, country, and pop influences.
-
Rhythm and Dance:
Tejano is inherently danceable, featuring styles like cumbia, polka, and bolero.
-
Lyrical Themes:
Lyrics are usually in Spanish, or a blend of Spanish and English, covering themes of love, heartbreak, ranch life, and cultural identity.
-
Evolution (Subgenres):
-
Conjunto: Accordion-driven, traditional rural style.
-
Orquesta (Tejano big band): Incorporates brass sections (trumpets, saxophones).
-
Grupo (Modern/Progressive): Popularized in the 70s-90s, using keyboards and electric instruments, famously performed by artists like Selena.
-
Usage Examples and Synonyms
-
Usage Examples:
A typical conjunto set includes a lively cumbia for dancing or a slow, emotional ranchera ballad about heartbreak. A modern Tejano concert might feature a "techno-cumbia" with a heavy synthesizer bassline.
-
Synonyms/Related Terms:
Tex-Mex music, música tejana, conjunto music, norteño-tejano, Texas-Mexican music. [And don't forget the good food - tacos!]

Finally Tejanos, I also look forward to a new day because ...
"It brings in a new life chapter, it opens another new path, and each day brings all of us
another window of opportunity for us to face the world all over again."
